Cameron grew up in the Grand Rapids area and after graduating high school attended the University of Michigan. Between his junior and senior years, while studying abroad, he had a diving accident that left him a quadriplegic. He recovered and rehabbed in Grand Rapids, then returned to Ann Arbor to finish his degree in Political Science. After graduation, he moved back to GR to continue his physical rehabilitation and start his professional life. He worked in marketing and communications for Steelcase from 2010-2019, before leaving to join Behler-Young, a fourth-generation family-owned company.
Cameron has served on the boards of and volunteered for several area organizations, including Disability Advocates of Kent County, Indian Trails Camp, the Conductive Learning Center, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, Gilda’s Club LaughFest, and Inner-City Christian Federation (ICCF), and he has a passion for increased access to housing, transportation, employment, and socialization opportunities for people with disabilities
